How did I come across this vodka? I`m not a heavy drinker or anything like that nor do I like vodka too much but big festivals like Easter or Christmas are celebrated with a bottle of Zubrowka in my family. My mum is Polish and our Polish family members use to bring a bottle of this vodka when they come and visit us. So what do you do as soon as you`re old enough? Of course, you try. Origin And Name Poland is known for this vodka what may be caused by a blade of special grass inside each bottle. It is called Bison grass and grows in the Bia?owie?a Forest, which is partly in Poland and partly in Belarus. This grass is eaten by wisents which are the namegivers of this aromatique vodka: The Slavic word for wisent is zubr. Ingredients And Taste Zubrowka, also known as Bison Grass Vodka, is a dry herb-flavoured vodka with 40% alcohol distilled from rye. Each bottle of Zubrowka contains one blade of bison grass (Hierochloe odorata) which is only decorative. Zubrovka has a unique and very distinctive taste. To me it is a very strong, slightly sweet vodka which has a herbal note. The latter can be described as vanilla, coconut or almond. What does it look and smell like? This slightly sweet vodka looks yellowish and has an amazing herbal smell. The classic Zubrowka brand has a distinct green and gold label with a bison on it. How to enjoy Zubrovka ... There are many ways to enjoy Zubrowka (bison grass vodka). Its great on its own but Polish people drink it with pure apple juice, too. Ive tried it - the result is a really nice, fruity and not too strong combination. It goes well with lime juice and/or apple liqueur, too. Price And Size Zubrovka is available sized 70cl. The average price in the UK is about £14-£15 but I suppose you`ll get it cheaper in Poland. I have seen it in supermarkets, as well as, off licences. My Opinion I`m not sure whether this alcohol is everyone`s cuppa tea. I myself really like it, especially mixed with apple juice. You shouldn`t mix it with fizzy drinks like coke or lemonade though. That doesn`t taste nice. However, I think this vodka is worth trying. Just try and see yourselves! |
