The Smashing Pumpkins are a very popular American alternative rock band. They formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1988, broke up in 2000 due to internal fighting, drug use and diminishing sales and finally reunited in 2006. Throughout the '90s they were one of the most commercially successful bands. They used a mixture of prog-rock, dream-pop, psychedelia and heavy metal to win their audience over.

Greatest Hits was released in 2001 after the band broke up. It features a decades work from the bands first album Gish to their last, Machina / the machines of God. On this album heavy tracks like "Zero" & "Stand Inside Your Love" are placed next to the quieter, dreamy pop songs such as "Tonight, Tonight" & "Try, Try, Try". Every song has its own character but they are all great in a way. Following you`ll see the track list with some personal comments of my own.:

No1: Siva ... makes my hairs on the back of my neck stand. Billy Corgan's strained vocals, raging guitars and relentless drum beats make this song an extremely powerful one. Amazing!

No2 Rhinoceros and No3 Drown ... are two calmer songs on the album. Chill out and enjoy!

No4: Cherub Rock ... powerful!

No5: Today ... A song full of optimism!

No6: Disarm and No7 With Butterfly Wings ... I absolutely love these two songs! Here Billy Corgan`s voice comes into its own completely.

No8: 1979... another nice and touching song. More a ballad than a rock song.

No9: Zero ... Simply wicked! Mad! See yourselves: Go and get your ears on youtube!

No10: Tonight, Tonight ... A song that gets you thinking in a positive way. Full of optimism and power. Like it.

No11: Eye ... Great lyrics. Featured on the soundtrack of the David Lynch film Lost Highway.

No12: Ava Adore ... contains electronic elements. A really nice song.

No13: Perfect ... Is about a break up and staying friends basically?

No14: Everlasting Gaze, The ... Just great! This song really makes you wan`t to jump around and cry out your anger. I love it!

No15: Stand Inside Your Love ... a bit calmer. Don`t like it too much.

No16: Try, Ty, Try ... it's about two people who are using drugs, and trying to live, and don't have money and are hiding from the police, they are TRYING to live. It's a very good, but sad song.

No17: Real Love - (previously unreleased) ... nothing special to me. A song about "real" love?!

No18.Untitled - (previously unreleased) ... Sweet!

Summary:
All songs are packed with emotions and reflective lyrics. Powerful guitars and drum beats plus Billy`s voice make this album a must have for lovers of alternative rock music. This is definitely worth buying!
