Pros: great folk music
Cons: none
How I came across this CD:
my boyfriend (and all his friends) adore Willy Mason. No wonder one day I fell for him, too ;)
It didnt take long. After hearing his music for a few times I wanted to know more about this singer...

About Willy Mason:
Who is Willy Mason? Born 21 November 1984, he is an American singer-songwriter. He is the son of two folk singers who - according to Willy - have influenced his music. And here comes the best: Willy is a direct descendant of the 19th century philosopher William James, the brother of novelist Henry James. This you might even notice in his lyrics - quite philosophic at times...

The debut album Where the Humans Eat was recorded in the summer months of 2004 and released on Conor Obersts Team Love label in the USA in October 2004, and by Virgin Records in the UK in February 2005.
Where the Humans Eat and its singles ("Oxygen" and "So Long"), charted in the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart in 2005. Remember?
In the spring of 2006, they began touring the US and Europe, along with other musicians. So far this year he has supported Beth Orton, KT Tunstall, Radiohead, and Sondre Lerche.
Willy released his second album, If the Ocean Gets Rough, in March 2007.

About this CD:

Tracklist

7. Letter #1
8. Sold My Soul
9. Our Town
10. So Long
11. Oxygen
12. 21st Century Boy

When you first listen to these songs you wouldnt guess its sung and written by a 19-years old. The music reminds me of "Nick Cave and The Backseeds", even Willys voice is similar to Nick Caves.

Robert Burrwo writes: "His keen observations and deft lyrics place him in an American tradition that includes Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams. Like the best protest singers, Mason is not motivated by anger at the way the world is, but hope in what the world can be. As a result, Where the Humans Eat is sweet, simple and altogether excellent."

My favourite tracks are Gotta keep movin and Oxygen.

My rating:
If you like folk or enjoy listening to Nick Cave for example, you should definitely check out Willy Masons music!
