Pros: Very extraordinary lyrics, different music styles, great voice!
Cons: None
The first time when I´ve heard about Metric was in 2006 when they reached the Single-Charts here in GB with their song MONSTER HOSPITAL. I was fascinated by their kind of lyrics, very special, not applicable, they do not mince matters.

Since then I am a big fan of this Canadian Indie Rock Band. They still have the same setting like they had in 1998 when they started their career with METRIC.

Emily Haines - vocals
James Shaw - guitarist
Josh Winstead - bass
Joules Scott-Key - drums.

So there was enough time to experimentalise different kinds of music genre like Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative and Electronic.

The first album 'Grow Up and Blow Away' (2001) was the first recorded album but delayed for years by their record label. Last Gang Records later purchased the rights to the album and released it on June 26, 2007.
To release another album before and to comply it more on the audience, the band started with their album 'Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?' in 2003.

At this time Metric was very rocking, mainly guitar music.

LIVE IT OUT as the third album (officially second) is a very special one. The cover from the album alone is very artfull, every song or rather the word of the song has its special drawing .
However, influenced through electronic music and Pop, still combined with starkly Rock, makes the style very interesting. As I said 'Monster Hospital' was the first single which became popular in UK and slopped over Europe. Other songs on the album:

# "Empty"
# "Glass Ceiling"
# "Handshakes"
# "Too Little, Too Late"
# "Poster of a Girl"
# "Monster Hospital"
# "Patriarch on a Vespa"
# "The Police and the Private"
# "Ending Start"
# "Live it Out"

Emily, the singer, performs with a great voice, very clear but also loud and rebellious voice, not applicable to the typical smoky rock voices. The lyrics are fantastic: sarcastic, trenchant, dearly, tenderly and written in a high intellectual level.

By the way... It seems that just in Europe Metric is not as popular as in the US and Canada. The band is well known in their native country and make a boast of their success there.

I love the music of Metric and highly recommend their OUTSTANDING album.

***** (5) STARS!!!

PS: My favourites are: Poster of a Girl (combines French lyrics), Monster Hospital and the one and only THE POLICE AND THE PRIVATE.

You've given a lot of information, but I still can't uimagine what kind of music it is. Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative and Electronic..that's so much! When do you listen to it? What are your experiences with this band? Is it fast music to dance to or rather for romantic evenings?
