help - I need a bike!

hey there! maybe you can help me with a decision to make: my mountainbike is pretty old, I think it must be about almost 10 years now and doesn't work properly anymore. the breaks, the gears, the chain...almost all important parts are affected...by age. so I went to the next shop and asked how much it would cost me to repair all these parts. When I heard his reply I thought he was kidding: £150! I could buy a new bike for that price!

I mean my one is ok for criusing through the city or to go to the next supermarket. but in summer I wanna go on a bike trip for a week or longer and therefore I need my bike to be in good condition.

what do you think, should I have it repaired or buy a new bike? maybe second hand? I'd like to get a trekking bike, can you recommend a special brand? or what should I check when buying a second hand one?

my new bike: a raleigh road classic

okay, I've found my new, excellent bike!!!

I bought it second hand, with little money and big luck!! after checking out some second hand bikes before that were pretty modest quality and should still cost about £100. This was too expensive for a bike that would maybe make it for no more than 2 or 3 years more.



and then I found it: a two years old raleigh road classic, a lady's trekking bike she never used and which was to be sold for  £200!! a fantastic choice. it has everything I need for my holiday trip: hydraulic brakes, a dynamo you don't even notice when riding with lights on, a luxury shimano shifter, an excellent spring system and the wheels don't make a sound. and: it's aluminium body is wonderfully light!

I'm as happy as a bee!!!!

if you read my blog you already know it...my new bike is gone. stolen in front of the gym. I had it for only two weeks but was terribly sad! now I'm waiting for the money from the insurance and then I'll have to start searching for a new one again.

any ideas?
